Certification
FAQs:
Q:
I am already a PMP. Is there any benefit
in getting this certification?
A: The PMI-RMP credential validates your
work experience and knowledge of project
risk management, and can compliment your
PMP credential. Your career path, current
or desired employer, and interest in the
subject will determine whether the credential
may benefit you.
Q:
What are the eligibility requirements to
apply for the PMI-RMP credential?
A: Those with a high school diploma, associates
degree or the global equivalent must have
accrued 4,500+ hours of project risk management
work experience within the past 5 consecutive
years and obtained 40 hours of risk-management
education. Those with a bachelor’s degree
or the global equivalent must have accrued
3,000+ hours of project risk management
work experience within the past 5 consecutive
years and obtained 30 hours of risk-management
education.
Q: Do
I need to have a PMP credential to apply?
A: No.
Q: How
many questions are on the exam, and how
much time is given to complete it?
A: The exam consists
of 170 questions – 150 of which are scored,
and 20 of which are pre-test questions.
The length of the exam is 3 hours and 30
minutes, plus a 15 minute tutorial preceding
the exam.
Q: Where
is the exam administered?
A: Exams are administered
at your local Prometric testing center,
where you will take a computer-based test.
Paper-based tests are reserved for those
that live 186.5 miles or greater away from
the nearest testing center. To locate a
testing center near you, visit prometric.com.
Q: How
much does the exam cost?
A: PMI Members pay
$520 for the computer-based test and $415
for the paper-based test. Non-PMI Members
pay $670 for computer-based test and $565
for the paper-based test.
Q: What
is covered in the exam?
A: PMI has provided
the exam blueprint, which includes 4 domains.
The following are the exam domains and percentage
of questions pertaining to that domain:
Risk Communication 27%, Risk Analysis 30%,
Risk Response Planning 26%, and Risk Governance
17%.
Q: In
preparing for the exam, is memorizing the
Project Risk Management Knowledge Area of
the PMBOK® Guide sufficient?
A: Like the PMP certification
exam, the PMI-RMP covers material in greater
depth than offered by the Project Risk Management
Knowledge Area of the PMBOK® Guide. We recommend
either taking a PMI-RMP exam preparation
course (whether through the PMP Instructors
or another training company) or purchasing
the exam preparation courseware available
through the PMP Instructors’ online store.
This courseware can be used as self-study
material, and includes a full-length practice
exam.
